Rachel Riley has spread dangerous lies about 40 babies being brutalised by Palestinians, falsely accused Palestinians of calling for genocide and wrongly claimed the Intifada means violence against civilians like the Sydney stabbings.
Rachel Riley is a British television presenter and mathematician, famous for her role as co-host on the long-running game show “Countdown” and her appearances on the comedy panel show “8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.” In 2019, she was appointed an MBE.
JOURNALISM
Rachel Riley has engaged in spreading misinformation and making inflammatory claims that promote anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia.
She echoed debunked lies about babies being brutalized, despite no evidence, fueling harmful propaganda — even going as far as to repeat the lie on national media and also claimed she’d seen the evidence herself.
Egregiously, Riley has falsely accused Palestinians of calling for "genocide" with the "river to sea" chant for liberation, deliberately mischaracterizing a vision of universal rights as eliminationist. She has also repeatedly misrepresented the meaning of "Intifada" as a call for violence against civilians.
After the Sydney stabbing attack, Riley directly linked it to Palestinians "globalizing the Intifada," despite the attacker having no known Palestinian ties. She claimed Palestinian protests advocate replicating over 1,000 Israeli deaths from the Second Intifada, inflammatory rhetoric that dangerously paints Palestinians as seeking indiscriminate killing.
While later acknowledging her aim wasn't to link the attack to Islamic extremism, Riley's consistent pattern of such reckless, inaccurate statements stokes fear and hostility towards Palestinians and pro-Palestinian activism. Her false portrayals of Palestinians as pursuing genocide and random violence embody an insidious form of racial prejudice.
By disseminating misinformation under the guise of condemning anti-Semitism, Riley actively promotes an anti-Palestinian form of bigotry and hatred that undermines prospects for peace and mutual understanding between communities.
Riley has also engaged in blatant historical revisionism to deny and distort the violent ethnic cleansing of Palestinians known as the Nakba. She shared and quotes an article which claimed "Arab leaders failed to annihilate Israel militarily in 1948, they launched a war of terror, incitement & expulsion to decimate their own ancient Jewish communities." This insidious lie inverts reality, absolving the perpetrators of the Nakba and blaming the victims.
In truth, the mass expulsion of 750,000 Palestinians from their homeland was a systematic campaign of displacement and terror waged by Zionist militias and forces, meticulously planned through initiatives like Plan Dalet and the Village Files.
It was not a response to any existential threat, but rather a concerted effort to engineer demographic majorities through forced removal of the indigenous Arab population. Zionist groups like the Irgun and Lehi purposely targeted Palestinian civilians through massacres and sowed terror to depopulate villages.
By peddling these falsehoods, Riley actively engages in the unforgivable act of denying and revising one of the seminal injustices and crimes against humanity of the 20th century - the ethnic cleansing of Palestine.
Her attempt to rewrite the Nakba as a defensive response erases the culpability of Zionist forces and the suffering, dispossession and displacement they inflicted on an entire civilization through campaigns of terrorism, destruction of homes and cultural erasure.
