The former Oasis guitarist said “I don’t like it in music – little fucking idiots waving flags around and making political statements” when commenting about people in the audience at the Glastonbury music festival holding the Palestinian flag. He called it “virtue signaling.”
Noel Gallagher is one of the two brothers who founded the band Oasis, one of the most influential British rock bands in the 90s and with millions of fans around the world. He’s now on a solo career since the band broke up in 2009. The band sold over 75 million records worldwide.

The only way Noel Gallagher can regain some credit is if he change the lyrics of one of his most famous songs to:
“I said maybe I don't really wanna know How your garden grows Cause a genocide is a genocide.”
He was a working class artist once. It’s incredible how a certain amount of money makes you forget the hardships of other people’s lives.
I guess when you're not middle class anymore you don't have to care about people being blown to pieces. When you consider protesting and bringing awareness about the genocide in Palestine “virtual signaling” I think you have lost your humanity entirely to money.
You want people singing your songs but not talking about real life? How long do you think you can live large inside that bubble you are in? Soon it will pop. And all the work you’ve done in the past will be that: in the past.
If you don’t care about people being massacred and are not willing to say something about it move out of the way! Or in your own words: “play your fucking tunes and get off.”
Here are the quotes and newspaper articles:
“Speaking on a podcast, the former Oasis guitarist said: “It’s getting a bit woke now, that place, and a bit kind of preachy and a bit virtue-signalling. I don’t like it in music – little fucking idiots waving flags around and making political statements and bands taking the stage and saying, ‘Hey guys, isn’t war terrible, yeah? Let’s all boo war. Fuck the Tories man,’ and all that. It’s like, look – play your fucking tunes and get off.”
“Noel added: 'I guess if you’re 18 and you’re middle class you might have a problem with it. But what’s all the kids in a field at Glastonbury going to do about it?“
“Donate all your money to the cause – that’s it, stop yapping about it,” Gallagher continued. “Let’s just say for instance the world is in a bit of a fucked up place … what’s all the kids in a field at Glastonbury going to do about it? Everybody knows what’s going on in the fucking world, you’ve got a phone in your pocket that tells you anyway. What is the point of virtue-signalling?”
