Following the October 7, 2023 attack, the Ecuadorian actress María Elisa Camargo posted an Instagram story sharing a post by the Zionist organization StandWithUs that included a photo a large flag of the Israeli state with the letters "Now and always, we stand with the people of Israel!" in all caps. Above and below the shared photo, she added her own commentary, including a red broken heart emoji and the Spanish text "Denuncio el terrorismo!!!! QUÉ DOLOR" which translates to "I denounce terrorism!!!! HOW PAINFUL!" Following that story, she has not posted anything critical of the Israel government and military's deadly actions in Gaza and the West Bank, nor has she offered any words of support for Palestinians in Gaza or elsewhere.
In 2022, Camargo portrayed "Valeria Garza" also known as "El Sin Nombre" in the 2022 video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Her character is a Mexican narco terrorist and the head of the Las Almas Cartel doing business with Iranian terrorists. Since then, her fan base has included more U.S.- and Europe-based fans. Worth noting si that her choice in video game roles have led to the further glorification and sterotyping of narco-terrorism in Mexico and Latin America, and she has used her platform as a voice actor for the miliaristic Call of Duty franchise to only discuss Palestinians and Arabs when in relation to discourses of terrorism.
