Ludwig, who has previously donated large sums of money to the Humane Society of America, No Kid Hungry, Wings For Life, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and LA Wildfires, but has refused to join a charity stream or host one for Palestine.
Ludwig Ahgren is a popular American Live Streamer, YouTuber, podcaster and former CEO of Offbrand. At one point Ludwig held the record for the most subscribed person on Twitch.
SOCIAL MEDIA/INFLUENCER
While Ludwig personally donated $10,000 to a Palestinian charity, he declined to publicly promote any initiatives, share information about the ongoing atrocities, or organize a charity event. He justified this decision by stating that "95% of people should feel good and are down for it", implying his audience wouldn't be in support of donating funds to the Palestinian cause, on a previous YouTube Livestream titled 'AFK JOURNEY VIDEO WITH LILY, ROSS, AND VOLKIN !AFK' (timestamp 32:47)
Ludwig chose not to confront Zionist individuals in his chat, even if they represented a majority, to avoid potential backlash or scrutiny. This decision raised concerns regarding the type of community he is willing to cultivate. Although many streamers and fans criticized his actions at the time, the controversy quickly faded from public discussion. Ludwig is included in this discussion because of his history of donating to and hosting charity streams for various causes, but excluding the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.
Silence = Complicity:
For those who have passionately spoken out against other instances of genocide and massacres, yet fall silent when it comes to the suffering endured by Palestinians, their silence becomes a glaring indictment of the value placed on Palestinian lives and perpetuates a dangerous narrative that suggests Palestinian suffering is somehow less worthy of outrage, less deserving of empathy and less human than that of others.
By choosing silence in the face of Palestinian suffering, those with influential platforms inadvertently contribute to the erasure of Palestinian voices and experiences. They perpetuate a narrative of invisibility that allows the injustices inflicted upon Palestinians to continue unabated, shielded from the spotlight of global scrutiny.
Their silence sends a chilling message of complicity to the world – one that suggests Palestinian lives are expendable, their struggles inconsequential and their humanity negotiable. It emboldens perpetrators of violence and oppression, granting them impunity under the guise of indifference.
To remain silent in the face of Palestinian suffering is to betray the very essence of activism – the relentless pursuit of justice for all, without exception or equivocation. It’s a betrayal not only of the Palestinian people but of the universal principles of human dignity and equality and instead is a tacit endorsement of the dehumanization and marginalization of an entire population.
True activism demands consistency and integrity, an unwavering commitment to speaking truth to power and standing in solidarity with the marginalized and oppressed, regardless of geography or politics.
