On December 23, 2016, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2334 which stated that Israel's settlement activity is a "flagrant violation" of international law and demanded that Israel cease such activity. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported that Gillibrand called on the then-Obama administration "to do everything in its power to make sure this resolution is not put forward or passed," thereby condoning Israel's attempts to colonize the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Unfortunately for her, the United States abstained in its vote, and the resolution was adopted.
